Visitor Stories

A Healthy Diet and a Helping Hand

A visitor says that she started coming to our distributions in 2021 when several members of her family became unemployed and they needed some additional help. With her husband requiring a low-sodium diet, she really appreciates the fresh produce that the Food Bank regularly provides, which her family often uses to make smoothies. While her family now only needs the Food Bank’s assistance occasionally, she often comes to pick up food for people she knows who do not have a car, and is happy to be able to lend a hand to her friends in need. She so appreciates the volunteers’ dedication to make the distributions happen, even on rainy and very cold days.

Fresh Vegetables Feeding the Family

A visitor has been coming to the Food Bank for the last 8 months to help feed herself, her daughter, and her grandchildren. She really loves the fresh vegetables and how friendly everyone is!

Creative Recipes and Food for Two Families

A mother said that her family moved to the area in 2018, and they have been coming to the Food Bank over the past eight months. Her 18-year-old son drives her to our distribution in good spirits even though he had gotten home at 2 a.m. after finishing his night shift at a local restaurant. He is also working hard in the process of finishing high school, and since he hadn’t had many English classes before the pandemic hit, he is focusing on improving his English skills. When they come to the Food Bank, they also pick up food for another family with children, to feed in total six children. Both families really appreciate receiving fresh vegetables, along with the tuna, which they often mix with some tomatoes and chili peppers to make tostadas, or they use the tuna to make a salad with cabbage, carrots, onions, and mayonnaise. The children also enjoy the canned tomatoes, which are also helpful for chicken dishes or for making salsa to go with taquitos.
